This Surah was revealed during the middle stage of Prophethood in Makkah. The style and theme of the Surah suggest that a bitter conflict had started between the Prophet ﷺ and the disbelievers of Makkah, even though their persecution had not yet reached its peak. The Surah seems to have been revealed during the climax of the "Famine" in Makkah, a period mentioned in verses 75-76. According to a tradition narrated by 'Urwah bin Zubair, Umar, who had embraced Islam by that time, mentioned that this Surah was revealed in his presence. He personally observed the state of the Holy Prophet ﷺ during its revelation. Upon the completion of the revelation, the Holy Prophet ﷺ commented that ten verses were sent down, and whoever lives up to them will surely enter Paradise. He then recited the initial verses of the Surah (Ahmad and Tirmidhi).
The whole Surah centres around one core message: calling upon people to embrace and adhere to the Prophet's ﷺ Message.
