The subject matter of this surah closely resembles that of Surah Adh-Dhuha, suggesting that both were revealed in a similar period under comparable circumstances. According to Abdullah bin Abbas, this surah was sent down in Makkah shortly after Surah Adh-Dhuha.
The aim and objective of this Surah is to console and encourage the Messenger ﷺ. It addresses the significant change in his life after Prophethood, where society turned hostile towards him despite previously esteeming him. Surah Ad-Duha was revealed to console him in this discouraging period. The Surah begins by reminding the Prophet ﷺ of three great blessings bestowed upon him: the opening of his heart, the removal of burdens, and the exaltation of his renown. It reassures him that the period of hardships will not last long and will be followed by ease, echoing the message of Surah Ad-Duha. In conclusion, the Prophet ﷺ is instructed to develop resilience through devotion to worship, as elaborated further in Surah Al-Muzzammil.
