Analysing the writing style, it appears that this chapter was revealed either in the final part of the middle period in Mecca or it belongs to those chapters revealed in the last phase of the Prophet's ﷺ residence in Mecca.
The main purpose of this message is to caution the Quraysh about the repercussions of rejecting the Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ and opposing it with oppression, scorn, and mockery. The warning aspect is prominent, and arguments are presented to help people comprehend the message correctly. There are three main arguments: 1- Monotheism (Tawhid): Illustrated through signs in the universe and common sense. 2- Hereafter: Supported by signs in the universe, common sense, and the existence of humanity itself. 3- Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ: Emphasising his selfless dedication to preaching, facing hardships without personal gain, and the rationality of his message. Throughout the discourse, strong reprobation, reproof, and warnings are repeatedly given to stir hearts and prompt those with a capacity for truth to respond. It's worth noting that Imam Ahmad quoted the Prophet ﷺ, stating that Surah Ya Seen is the "heart of the Qur’an," symbolising its essential role in revitalising the Islamic creed, especially during critical moments like the transition to the Hereafter. The surah serves to awaken the spirit, providing a vivid picture of the stages beyond this worldly life.
