The style and subject matter of this Surah are reminiscent of the earliest Surahs revealed in Makkah. However, it was revealed at a time when the disbelievers of Makkah were actively trying to undermine the message of the Quran and Muhammad ﷺ through various schemes and strategies.
This Surah discusses two main themes: firstly, the inevitability of facing God after death, and secondly, the invincibility of the Quran against the schemes of disbelievers. It begins by pointing to the stars in the heavens as evidence of a guiding force in the universe. Then, it prompts reflection on human creation from a mere sperm-drop to a complex being, emphasising that the same power that created humanity can resurrect them. This resurrection will expose all hidden truths and deeds, leaving no escape for individuals. In conclusion, the Surah asserts that just as the natural processes of rain and growth are undeniable realities, so too are the truths presented in the Quran. Despite disbelievers' attempts to thwart its message, they will ultimately realise the Quran's dominance over their efforts. The Prophet ﷺ is encouraged to remain patient while the disbelievers exhaust their strategies, as the Quran will prevail in due time.
