This Surah was revealed early in Makkah when the opposition against the Prophet ﷺ became very strong and harsh.
This Surah covers three main topics: responding to objections from opponents, warning and advising them, and encouraging the Prophet ﷺ to stay patient and steadfast. Firstly, the Prophet ﷺ is comforted, being told not to worry about being called mad by disbelievers. His actions and the Book he presents will prove his sanity. Then, without naming names, a story illustrates the stark contrast between the Prophet's ﷺ character and that of a well-known opponent in Makkah. Next, a parable about ungrateful garden owners highlights the consequences of ignoring God's guidance. This serves as a warning to the people of Makkah, implying that if they reject the Prophet ﷺ, they'll face similar consequences. Then, the disbelievers are directly admonished. It's stressed that those who live with awareness of God will be rewarded in the Hereafter, while those who deny will face punishment. Their denial of the Quran won't save them, and their false sense of security will lead to ruin. They have no valid reason to reject the Prophet ﷺ or his message. Lastly, the Prophet ﷺ is urged to remain patient amidst the challenges of spreading the faith, knowing that God's judgement will ultimately prevail.
