This Surah, too, belongs to the early revelations in Makkah. Its content suggests it was revealed during a time when opposition to the Prophet's ﷺ message of Islam was intensifying among the disbelievers of Makkah.
This Surah tells the story of Prophet Noah to serve as a warning to the disbelievers of Makkah. It implies: "You, people of Makkah, are behaving towards Muhammad as the people of Noah did towards him. If you continue, you'll face the same fate." Verses 2-4 summarise how Noah started his mission and what he preached. Then, his struggles and plea to God are described in verses 5-20. Despite Noah's efforts, his people stubbornly opposed him. In verses 21-24, Noah submits to God, realising his people's rejection. He prays for their guidance but acknowledges their deep-seated disbelief. Consequently, in verse 25, God's punishment descends upon them. The Surah ends with Noah's prayer at the time of the punishment, seeking forgiveness for himself and believers while asking God to eradicate the disbelievers. To understand fully, refer to the detailed accounts of Noah in other Quranic chapters mentioned.
