The way the text is written suggests that this chapter was likely revealed in the middle of the time the Prophet ﷺ spent in Mecca. At that point, there was a significant increase in opposition, and various tactics were being used to hinder the Prophet's ﷺ mission.
The message of this chapter is a warning and advice to the people of Mecca and their leaders. It is as if it is saying, "Listen, you are harming yourselves by opposing the Prophet ﷺ. His message is for your benefit. Your anger and schemes against him are not hurting him but are detrimental to your own well-being. Think about what he is saying – there is nothing wrong in it. He rejects polytheism and advocates the belief in one God. If you use your common sense, you'll see there is only one Creator with divine powers. He reminds you that you're not here without purpose; you'll be held accountable for your deeds in the afterlife. Look at the creation around you, and you'll realise that God, who created you from a tiny drop, can surely resurrect you. It's logical that good and evil shouldn't have the same fate. If you choose to ignore these rational truths and stick to false gods, you'll only harm yourselves; the Prophet ﷺ won't suffer. His duty is to convey the truth. The Prophet ﷺ is comforted, telling him that he's not responsible for those who reject the message. He's reminded not to grieve over non-believers but focus on those willing to listen. Believers are reassured, encouraging them to stay firm on the truth, trusting in God's promises."
