Modern science has determined that the surface temperature of the Sun is approximately 5778 Kelvin. This measurement was established through advanced methods in astrophysics, classifying the Sun as a G2V star, where G2 represents its surface temperature and V its main-sequence status.
The Sun’s surface temperature is about 5778 K (5505 °C or 9941 °F). This level of precision is derived from careful astronomical observations and calculations, a feat of modern science.
The Quran refers to the Sun in multiple verses. Remarkably, when analyzing the Quran, the first occurrence of the word Sun in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:258) and its last occurrence in Surah Ash-Shams (91:1) are separated by 5778 verses. This matches the Sun’s surface temperature in Kelvin—a fact unknown to humanity 1400 years ago.
Are you ˹O Prophet˺ not aware of the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord because Allah had granted him kingship? ˹Remember˺ when Abraham said, “My Lord is the One Who has power to give life and cause death.” He argued, “I too have the power to give life and cause death.” Abraham challenged ˹him˺, “Allah causes the sun to rise from the east. So make it rise from the west.” And so the disbeliever was dumbstruck. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.2:258

The correlation between the number of verses and the Sun’s temperature suggests knowledge beyond human capacity at the time. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who was unlettered, could not have known or calculated such information without divine revelation. This remarkable connection is seen as another example of the Quran’s alignment with scientific truths discovered much later.
