1400 years ago, the Quran spoke about the sun lending something to humans, which skeptics argue is a mistake since we don’t borrow from the sun and repay later. However, modern science supports the idea that the energy we gain from the sun must be lost later, a concept aligned with the law of conservation of energy.
The law of conservation of energy states that energy in an isolated system cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or transformed. In simpler terms, the total energy in a system remains constant; it is conserved over time. - Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it can only change forms. This principle explains that energy gained from the sun is eventually lost in the form of heat, such as when one moves into the shade.
In the Quran, the sun is described as lending something to humans, which must be repaid later, emphasizing the concept of no additions or subtractions—just a return of what was given.
And you would have seen the sun, as it rose, inclining away from their cave to the right, and as it set, declining away from them to the left, while they lay in its open space. That is one of the signs of Allah. Whoever Allah guides is truly guided. But whoever He leaves to stray, you will never find for them a guiding mentor.18:17
Arabic terms: "Kard" (قَرْض) means a loan, and "Takriduhum" (تَقْرِضُهُمْ) means to give a loan. In this context, the sun is lending something, which aligns with the idea of energy being borrowed from the sun and later returned.
The Quranic description of the sun lending something that must be repaid without interest aligns with the principle of conservation of energy, where energy gained from the sun is eventually lost in the shade, confirming the idea that energy is neither created nor destroyed, just transformed. This understanding of energy conservation matches modern scientific principles known today. Whilst these verses might not necessarily reference the scientific findings mentioned here, they showcase how, even the most hard to imagine realities explained by the Quran, can be shown to be permissible with modern scientific discoveries.
