The Quran foretells a cosmic event involving the sun and the moon that aligns with modern astronomical findings. Over 1400 years ago, the Quran mentioned that the sun and the moon would merge, a concept skeptics found implausible. However, science now confirms that this phenomenon will indeed occur in the distant future when the sun becomes a red giant.
1- Red Giant Phase: Stars like our sun expand dramatically in their final stages, transitioning into a red giant. During this phase, the sun will swell to hundreds of times its current size. This process is predicted to occur in approximately 5 billion years. 2- Engulfing Inner Planets: As the sun grows into a red giant, its outer layers will consume the inner planets, including Earth and the moon. This expansion will result in the sun and the moon appearing as though they have merged before their ultimate destruction.
and the sun and the moon are brought together,75:9
The Quran describes a future event where the sun and the moon merge. Skeptics argued that this description contradicted reality since the sun and moon operate on entirely separate orbits. However, modern science now validates this prediction: the sun's future expansion will cause it to engulf and destroy the moon and other inner celestial bodies.
This alignment between Quranic verses and recent scientific discoveries underscores the advanced insights present in the Quran. It is remarkable that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who was unlettered, conveyed this information centuries before modern science uncovered these cosmic truths. Such examples highlight the Quran's continued relevance and its profound knowledge of the natural world.
