The Quran remarkably highlights the provision of water to all areas, including rain or dew, a concept only validated by modern science in understanding dew formation in extremely arid regions.
- Dew Formation: Dew forms through condensation when the ground cools at night, leading to moisture from the air depositing on surfaces. Even in the driest places, like the Atacama Desert (considered the driest desert on Earth), dew delivers essential moisture. This phenomenon supports plant life, lichens, and even small animals. - Significance in Dry Regions: In deserts such as the Negev Desert in Israel and Namib Desert in Africa, dew provides vital hydration. For example, in the Negev Desert, dew accounts for nearly half of the water absorbed by specific desert plant species.
In Quran 2:265, Allah mentions that if rain doesn't fall on land, dew will reach it:
And the example of those who donate their wealth, seeking Allah’s pleasure and believing the reward is certain, is that of a garden on a fertile hill: when heavy rain falls, it yields up twice its normal produce. If no heavy rain falls, a drizzle is sufficient. And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.2:265
This verse, revealed over 1,400 years ago, describes dew as a backup for regions devoid of rain, ensuring life sustains even in arid conditions. Modern discoveries confirm dew's ability to reach the driest areas, providing hydration where rainfall is absent, such as the Atacama Desert. The Quran's foresight into dew's vital role in sustaining ecosystems underscores its miraculous knowledge, harmonizing ancient text with contemporary science.
