In the Quran, it is mentioned that shorelines are receding. Some skeptics argue that the Quran is mistaken, claiming that shorelines don’t actually change—whatever is lost at low tide is gained again at high tide. However, today scientists confirm that shorelines are indeed receding because global warming is causing the ice at the poles to melt, which raises sea levels.
Global warming is causing the ice in polar regions, especially in places like Greenland, to melt at an increasing rate. This adds more water to the oceans, causing sea levels to rise and shorelines to recede.
Recent studies have shown that Greenland is losing ice much faster than experts originally predicted. This rapid melting has already contributed significantly to the rising sea levels, and with continued global warming, Greenland will lose even more ice, posing a threat to coastal cities worldwide. Nearly half of the world’s population lives in cities vulnerable to the rising seas, with cities like New York, Miami, Tokyo, and Mumbai being particularly at risk.
In Quran 13:41, it says:
Do they not see that We gradually reduce their land from its borders? Allah decides—none can reverse His decision. And He is swift in reckoning.13:41
Here, the term "Ard" (Earth or Land) refers to the edges or shorelines of the land. The verse speaks about the land diminishing at its edges, which is happening today due to the rising sea levels caused by global warming. This scientific discovery, which was made recently, was actually described in the Quran over 1400 years ago.
