It is said that Moses was picked up by the slave girls of Pharaoh, who brought Moses in the basket to the wife of Pharaoh, Asiyah (bint (daughter of) Muzahim bin (son of) Ubaid bin Raiyan bin Walid). Some narrations suggest she could have been of Israelite heritage. When Asiyah opened the basket, she saw Moses' illuminated face and Allah made her fall in love with him.
When Pharaoh came back and saw Moses, he said he should be killed but Asiyah asked if the baby could be a gift to her and that he be allowed to live. She convinced him saying that he could be integrated into their people as they did not have children together. Note the biblical view of Pharaoh's daughter finding Moses in the Nile is not in-line with the truth of the Quran.
And ˹it so happened that˺ Pharaoh’s people picked him up, only to become their enemy and source of grief. Surely Pharaoh, Hamân, and their soldiers were sinful.28:8
Pharaoh’s wife said ˹to him˺, “˹This baby is˺ a source of joy for me and you. Do not kill him. Perhaps he may be useful to us or we may adopt him as a son.” They were unaware ˹of what was to come˺.28:9
Meanwhile, Moses' mother became distressed without her son and was close to telling people who he was in order to get him back and check he was ok.
And the heart of Moses’ mother ached so much that she almost gave away his identity, had We not reassured her heart in order for her to have faith ˹in Allah’s promise˺.28:10
She asked her eldest daughter to inquire and see where he was subtly.
And she said to his sister, “Keep track of him!” So she watched him from a distance, while they were unaware.28:11
In Pharaoh's palace, the people were trying to find Moses a wet nurse but he would not feed from any of them. Moses' sister spotted this and suggested she knew someone who could look after him.
And We had caused him to refuse all wet-nurses at first, so his sister suggested, “Shall I direct you to a family who will bring him up for you and take good care of him?”28:12
Moses was taken back to his mother, who he happily fed from. The people were happy and went to tell Asiyah chose her to be the wet nurse of baby musa, she fed him until he started eating, though her services were no longer needed, but Asiyah out of kindness permitted her to visit him in the palace as and when she wished, this was immense mercy of Allah.
This is how We returned him to his mother so that her heart would be put at ease, and not grieve, and that she would know that Allah’s promise is ˹always˺ true. But most people do not know.28:13
Moses was treated very well. He was given the best clothes and entertainment - all blessings from Allah,he was raised as a prince.
