When Moses returned back to Pharaoh, him and his brother went to preach the oneness of Allah (Tawheed) and that he alone should be worshipped. It is said by some that Moses and Aaron went to the gate of the palace saying they were messengers of God and the guards began to mock them. They waited outside for a long time until the guards had the courage to tell Pharaoh.
Inside, they told him to stop his evil practices and instead replace it with obeying Allah but Pharaoh refused. He tried to shame Moses saying he looked after him when he was young and that he killed a man so he should worship Pharaoh only.
So go to him and say, ‘Indeed we are both messengers from your Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with us, and do not oppress them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And salvation will be for whoever follows the ˹right˺ guidance.20:47
Go to Pharaoh and say, ‘We are messengers from the Lord of all worlds,26:16
˹commanded to say:˺ ‘Let the Children of Israel go with us.’’”26:17
Pharaoh protested, “Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you stayed several years of your life in our care?26:18
Then you did what you did, being ˹utterly˺ ungrateful!”26:19
Moses replied, “I did it then, lacking guidance.26:20
So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers.26:21
How can that be a ‘favour,’ of which you remind me, when ˹it was only because˺ you ˹have˺ enslaved the Children of Israel?”26:22
Pharaoh threatened, “If you take any other god besides me, I will certainly have you imprisoned.”26:29
Then there was a conversation between Pharaoh and Moese on who Allah the Lord of worlds is. Pharaoh wanted his people to worship him as we see in the verses below, despite Moses bringing clear argument against this.
Pharaoh asked, “And what is ‘the Lord of all worlds’?”26:23
Moses replied, “˹He is˺ the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, if only you had sure faith.”26:24
Pharaoh said to those around him, “Did you hear ˹what he said˺?”26:25
Moses added, “˹He is˺ your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.”26:26
Pharaoh said ˹mockingly˺, “Your messenger, who has been sent to you, must be insane.”26:27
Moses responded: “˹He is˺ the Lord of the east and west, and everything in between, if only you had any sense.”26:28
Pharaoh asked, “Who then is the Lord of you two, O Moses?”20:49
He answered, “Our Lord is the One Who has given everything its ˹distinctive˺ form, then guided ˹it˺.”20:50
Pharaoh asked, “And what about previous peoples?”20:51
He replied, “That knowledge is with my Lord in a Record. My Lord neither falters nor forgets ˹anything˺.”20:52
˹He is the One˺ Who has laid out the earth for ˹all of˺ you, and set in it pathways for you, and sends down rain from the sky, causing various types of plants to grow,20:53
˹so˺ eat and graze your cattle. Surely in this are signs for people of sound judgment.20:54
From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will bring you back again.20:55
And We certainly showed Pharaoh all of Our signs, but he denied them and refused ˹to believe˺.20:56
Pharaoh declared, “O chiefs! I know of no other god for you but myself. So bake bricks out of clay for me, O Hamân, and build a high tower so I may look at the God of Moses, although I am sure he is a liar.”28:38
Pharaoh demanded, “Bring it then, if what you say is true.”26:31
However, Pharaoh did believe in God. He knew Moses was speaking the truth, it was his pride that caused him to transgress and his lust for power. When Pharaoh noticed everyone would realise he was not the lord he painted himself to be, he threatened Moses but Moses responded saying he had clear proof - two miracles from Allah. Pharaoh, expecting it to be nothing, challenged him to show the proof.
Moses responded, “Even if I bring you a clear proof?”26:30
Then he drew his hand ˹out of his collar˺ and it was ˹shining˺ white for all to see.26:33
The first Miracle was that he threw down his staff, as he did when he saw Allah on Mount Tur, and it turned into a serpent. The second was he put his hand into his collar, and it came out shining white.
So he threw down his staff and—behold!—it became a real snake.26:32
Then he summoned ˹his people˺ and called out,79:23
So Allah overtook him, making him an example in this life and the next.79:25
saying, “I am your lord, the most high!”79:24
Pharaoh, knowing this was clear proof, gathered his ministers in shock to come up with a plan.
Then Moses showed him the great sign,79:20
then turned his back, striving ˹against the truth˺.79:22
but he denied and disobeyed ˹Allah˺,79:21
