Once Moses had completed the term agreed and Musa was prepared for prophethood through ten years of shepherding to develop patience and skills , he left to go back to Egypt with his family. It was cold and dark and he was travelling through the desert and near mount sinai he lost his way when he came across a fire in the distance.
When Moses had completed the term and was travelling with his family, he spotted a fire on the side of Mount Ṭûr. He said to his family, “Stay here, ˹for˺ I have spotted a fire. Perhaps from there I can bring you some directions or a torch from the fire so you may warm yourselves.”28:29
Has the story of Moses reached you ˹O Prophet˺?20:9
When he saw a fire, he said to his family, “Wait here, ˹for˺ I have spotted a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a torch from it, or find some guidance at the fire.”20:10
˹Remember˺ when Moses said to his family, “I have spotted a fire. I will either bring you some directions from there, or a burning torch so you may warm yourselves.”27:7
When Moses went to the fire, Allah spoke to him directly.
We called him from the right side of Mount Ṭûr, and drew him near, speaking ˹with him˺ directly.19:52
He took his shoes off out of respect and stood facing the Qibla, looking at the burning green tree.
But when he came to it, he was called ˹by Allah˺, “Blessed is the one at the fire, and whoever is around it! Glory be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.27:8
But when he came to it, he was called from the bush in the sacred ground to the right side of the valley: “O Moses! It is truly I. I am Allah—the Lord of all worlds.28:30
Allah tells Moses of the truth of His oneness. He explains the temporality of this world and the inevitability of the hereafter after death. He tells him about the fairness of a person's hereafter, and the day of judgement more specifically. These verses end by emphasising the importance of not following desires for they will distract us from goodness and truth.
But when he approached it, he was called, “O Moses!20:11
It is truly I. I am your Lord! So take off your sandals, for you are in the sacred valley of Ṭuwa.20:12
I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed:20:13
‘It is truly I. I am Allah! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Me. So worship Me ˹alone˺, and establish prayer for My remembrance.20:14
The Hour is sure to come. My Will is to keep it hidden, so that every soul may be rewarded according to their efforts.20:15
So do not let those who disbelieve in it and follow their desires distract you from it, or you will be doomed.’”20:16
Allah then asks Moses about his staff, commanding him to throw it down on the ground.
˹Allah added,˺ “And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?”20:17
He replied, “It is my staff! I lean on it, and with it I beat down ˹branches˺ for my sheep, and have other uses for it.”20:18
Allah said, “Throw it down, O Moses!”20:19
So he did, then—behold!—it became a serpent, slithering.20:20
When Moses threw the staff, it turned into a big, very fast snake, with a huge jaw. Moses fearfully moved away from it! Allah told him he was safe and commanded him to pick it up. When he did, it turned back into his wooden staff.
Now, throw down your staff!” But when he saw it slithering like a snake, he ran away without looking back. ˹Allah reassured him,˺ “O Moses! Draw near, and have no fear. You are perfectly secure.28:31
Allah said, “Take it, and have no fear. We will return it to its former state.20:21
After this miracle, Allah further told Moses to put his hand into his collar and take it out again. When he did, his hand came out white and shiny . (mentioned in 28:32 and 7:130-133).
Now put your hand through ˹the opening of˺ your collar, it will come out ˹shining˺ white, unblemished. And cross your arms tightly to calm your fears. These are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his chiefs. They have truly been a rebellious people.”28:32
And put your hand under your armpit, it will come out ˹shining˺ white, unblemished, as another sign,20:22
so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs.20:23
Moses is then told of his prophetic mission.
Go to Pharaoh, for he has truly transgressed ˹all bounds˺.”20:24
Moses prayed, “My Lord! Uplift my heart for me,20:25
and make my task easy,20:26
and remove the impediment from my tongue20:27
so people may understand my speech,20:28
and grant me a helper from my family,20:29
Aaron, my brother.20:30
Strengthen me through him,20:31
and let him share my task,20:32
so that we may glorify You much20:33
and remember You much,20:34
for truly You have ˹always˺ been overseeing us.”20:35
Allah responded, “All that you requested has been granted, O Moses!20:36
And We appointed for him—out of Our grace—his brother, Aaron, as a prophet.19:53
He responds fearfully explaining what had happened and that he was worried the people of Pharaoh would seek revenge for killing the Coptic man. Moses asked for his brother to support him who was more eloquent and patient in nature, which Allah granted. Both Moses and Aaron were prophets of Allah, supporting each other in delivering Allah's message.
Moses appealed, “My Lord! I have indeed killed a man from them, so I fear they may kill me.28:33
And my brother Aaron is more eloquent than I, so send him with me as a helper to support what I say, for I truly fear they may reject me.”28:34
Allah responded, “We will assist you with your brother and grant you both authority, so they cannot harm you. With Our signs, you and those who follow you will ˹certainly˺ prevail.”28:35
˹Remember˺ when your Lord called out to Moses, “Go to the wrongdoing people—26:10
the people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear ˹Allah˺?”26:11
He replied, “My Lord! I fear that they will reject me.26:12
And ˹so˺ my heart will be broken and my tongue will be tied. So send Aaron along ˹as a messenger˺.26:13
Also, they have a charge against me, so I fear they may kill me.”26:14
Allah responded, “Certainly not! So go, both of you, with Our signs. We will be with you, listening.26:15
