When Moses was older, one day in the main city of Egypt, he came across a man from the Israelites and another who was a Coptic Egyptian. They were fighting and the Isralite called Moses for help. He hit the man and the blow was fatal so unintentionally he killed the coptian, he was physically a very strong man, so the murder was just out of his anger.
˹One day˺ he entered the city unnoticed by its people. There he found two men fighting: one of his own people, and the other of his enemies. The man from his people called to him for help against his foe. So Moses punched him, causing his death. Moses cried, “This is from Satan’s handiwork. He is certainly a sworn, misleading enemy.”28:15
Immediately Moses repented for his mistake.
He pleaded, “My Lord! I have definitely wronged my soul, so forgive me.” So He forgave him, ˹for˺ He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.28:16
Moses pledged, “My Lord! For all Your favours upon me, I will never side with the wicked.”28:17
Moses became concerned thinking that the Coptic people might, after hearing that he sided with the Israeli, realise he was one of them. Walking in the city, the next day he came across the same Israeli man again fighting another Coptic man. This time, Moses rebuked the Israeli realising he was a trouble-maker.
And so Moses became fearful, watching out in the city, when suddenly the one who sought his help the day before cried out to him again for help. Moses rebuked him, “Indeed, you are clearly a trouble-maker.”28:18
One of the two men assumed Moses was going to hit him; Perhaps the Israeli knowing that he had killed the other man before, or the Coptic man who assumed Moses must have killed the other Coptic man yesterday. Either way, news reached Pharaoh that Moses had killed an Egyptian.
Then when Moses was about to lay his hands on their foe, the enemy said, “O Moses! Do you intend to kill me as you killed a man yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land. You do not intend to make peace!”28:19
Pharaoh sent his soldier after Moses. However, a man came to Moses with the news before his men got to him. Notice the description of the man 'from the farthest end of the city' - indeed Allah's help is far-reaching and can come from anywhere.
And there came a man, rushing from the farthest end of the city. He said, “O Moses! The chiefs are actually conspiring against you to put you to death, so leave ˹the city˺. I really advise you ˹to do so˺.”28:20
