The Quran mentions concepts that modern science has only recently discovered, such as the nature of atoms, particles, and even string theory. Here’s a simplified explanation with the relevant Quranic verses:
Indeed, Allah is the One Who causes seeds and fruit stones to sprout. He brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living. That is Allah! How can you then be deluded ˹from the truth˺?6:95
This suggests the splitting of nuclei, but this could be metaphorical rather than a direct reference to atomic theory.
There is no activity you may be engaged in ˹O Prophet˺ or portion of the Quran you may be reciting, nor any deed you ˹all˺ may be doing except that We are a Witness over you while doing it. Not ˹even˺ an atom’s weight is hidden from your Lord on earth or in heaven; nor anything smaller or larger than that, but is ˹written˺ in a perfect Record. 10:61
This verse mentions atoms, but back then, atoms were thought to be indivisible, which is now known to be false.
Have you ˹O Prophet˺ not seen those who ˹falsely˺ elevate themselves? It is Allah who elevates whoever He wills. And none will be wronged ˹even by the width of˺ the thread of a date stone.4:49
The word fateel means "wick," which has been linked to the smallest particle in modern interpretations. Some connect this to the concept of vibrating strings in String Theory, which is the smallest known unit in particle physics.
But those who do good—whether male or female—and have faith will enter Paradise and will never be wronged ˹even as much as˺ the speck on a date stone.4:124
Naqir refers to the "pluck" of a string, a concept related to the vibrations in String Theory. This modern theory proposes that the smallest particles are vibrating strings.
Bible and Science: The Bible describes stars metaphorically, such as in Revelation 8:10, which states stars fall like lamps. These descriptions align more with ancient cosmological understanding than modern astrophysics.
While the Quran speaks of atoms, nuclei, and small particles, these references are metaphorical and don’t explicitly describe modern scientific ideas like String Theory. However, the verses can be interpreted in a way that resonates with discoveries made much later.
