The Quran associates iron with great strength and notes its origin from the heavens in Quran 57:25, stating:
Indeed, We sent Our messengers with clear proofs, and with them We sent down the Scripture and the balance ˹of justice˺ so that people may administer justice. And We sent down iron with its great might, benefits for humanity, and means for Allah to prove who ˹is willing to˺ stand up for Him and His messengers without seeing Him. Surely Allah is All-Powerful, Almighty.57:25
Iron is formed through nuclear fusion in massive stars and is scattered across the universe during supernova explosions. It is not produced on Earth but delivered via meteorites.
Iron’s nucleus has the strongest binding energy per nucleon of all naturally occurring elements, making it the most stable.
The Quran’s chapter on iron is 57, matching the atomic mass of its isotope 57Fe. The word "Iron" in Arabic (حديد) has a gematrical value of 26, coinciding with iron’s atomic number. There are 5,100 verses from the Quran’s beginning to the "Iron" verse, corresponding to the 5,100 km depth where Earth's core—mostly iron—is located.
During the Quran’s revelation, iron was known to rust and bend, making it seem ordinary. Yet, the Quran emphasized its cosmic origin and unmatched strength, facts only confirmed by science much later. This remarkable concurrence highlights advanced knowledge embedded in the Quran long before its time.
