The melting point of silver is 962°C, a fact confirmed by modern science. Interestingly, this number appears in the Quran, which mentions silver (الفِضَّة) twice:
The enjoyment of ˹worldly˺ desires—women, children, treasures of gold and silver, fine horses, cattle, and fertile land—has been made appealing to people. These are the pleasures of this worldly life, but with Allah is the finest destination.3:14
Silver is listed among worldly desires.
O believers! Indeed, many rabbis and monks consume people’s wealth wrongfully and hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah. Give good news of a painful torment to those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in Allah’s cause.9:34
Silver is mentioned in connection with punishment for hoarding wealth.
The Day ˹will come˺ when their treasure will be heated up in the Fire of Hell, and their foreheads, sides, and backs branded with it. ˹It will be said to them,˺ “This is the treasure you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste what you hoarded!”9:35
By counting the number of Quranic characters between these two mentions of silver, we get 962, which corresponds exactly to the melting point of silver in Celsius. This numerical alignment, discovered only recently, raises the question of how an unlettered man 1400 years ago could have known this specific scientific detail.
