According to Ibn Ishaq, Isaiah was a prophet who came before Zachariah and John the Baptist (Yahya). He also prophesied about the coming of Jesus and Muhammad ﷺ. When he came, a king called Hezekiah ruled over the Israelites. The king listened to Isaiah but they were in a dangerous situation; their king was ill and king Sennacherib from Babylon was steadily approaching with an army of 6 thousand men.
Isaiah was given revelation explaining that the king would soon die so someone else should be appointed. The king prayed to Allah asking for forgiveness, glorifying him. He was a just king. His prayers were accepted and he was granted an extra 15 years and victory against his enemy Sennacherib. As soon as he heard this news, his illness began to heal and he fell into prostration glorifying Allah, The Almighty.
The army of Sennacherib fell dead, except Sennacherib himself and 5 of his companions - one of which was Nebuchadnezzar. Hezekiah sent for them to be captured and they were brought and imprisoned for some time.
Isaiah then was told to free them and let them return to their people so as to warn them. When they were released and returned, their priests and soothsayers exclaimed that they had already warned them that the prophet's God cannot be defeated. Sennacherib died 70 years later.
After Hezekiah's death, hostility spread amongst the Israelites. Isaiah warned them to stop their evil deeds and reminded them of the bounty of Allah. However, they were arrogant and disobeyed his guidance, they began plotting to kill him.
Isaiah had to flee out of fear of his life. When running away, a tree opened itself up so as to let him hide inside but Satan made part of his clothes stick out and his people found him. They sawed the tree into two parts, with Isaiah inside. May Allah have mercy on him.
