Ibrahims' wife, Sarah could not become pregnant due to her old age so she offered her gifted slave Hagar to marry Ibrahim. It was from this that Ibrahim was given his son Ishmael (Ismail) when Ibrahim was an old man. It was from Ishmael's lineage our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was to be born.
Hagar gave birth to Ishmael when Ibrahim was 86 years old and it was 13 years before Isaac was born.
When Ishmael was born Allah revealed to Ibrahim the good news of another son also coming, Isaac from Sarah. Ibrahim fell down in prostration to Allah and Allah said to him 'I have answered your prayed for Ishmael, and I have blessed him and will greatly increase his number. He will be the father of 12 rulers and I will make him into a great nation.' This was good news for our Muslim ummah. These 12 rulers were pious leaders, as mentioned in hadith.
Hagar gave birth to Ishmael and Sarah began to feel ill towards her so asked if she could not see her. When Ishmael was still young, Ibrahim went on a journey with him and his mother Hagar towards modern day Makkah.
