Whoever emigrates in the cause of Allah will find many safe havens and bountiful resources throughout the earth. Those who leave their homes and die while emigrating to Allah and His Messenger—their reward has already been secured with Allah. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.4:100
Khâlid ibn Hizâm ibn Khuwailid ibn Asad ibn 'Abdul-'Uzza ibn Qusai ibn Kilâb Al-Qurashi Al-Asdi was the brother of Hakim ibn Hizâm and the cousin of Khadijah bint Khuwailid. Khâlid was one of the early followers of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He left Makkah intending to join those who were migrating to Al-Habashah (Ethiopia). However, he passed away due to a poisonous snakebite before reaching Al-Habashah. His death led to the revelation of verse 4:100. Some scholars have mentioned that this verse was also revealed regarding Damrah ibn Jundub. Damrah left his home with the intention to migrate to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, instructing his family to take him away from the lands of the polytheists. Unfortunately, he passed away on the way before reaching the Prophet ﷺ. According to another opinion, the verse was also revealed for Junda' ibn Damrah Al-Laithi, a weak and oppressed Muslim in Makkah who was sick. Upon hearing that Allah had granted permission for Muslims to migrate, he instructed his family or close friends to take him away from Makkah. Due to his illness, they prepared a makeshift bed to carry him. They managed to carry him out of Makkah, but he passed away on the way, specifically at Tan'im. These incidents highlight the compassion and mercy of Allah towards those who strive in His cause, even if they do not reach their intended destination due to circumstances beyond their control.
