In ancient times, people used the cubit as a measure for short distances. Meters, kilometers, miles, and light-years had not yet been invented, but the Quran mentions distances that correspond to these modern units.
In Quran 69:32, the verse says:
then tie them up with chains seventy arms long.69:32
It turns out that 70 cubits is equivalent to 32 meters, which interestingly matches the number of the verse itself. - 70 cubits = 32 meters - The number of the verse = 32 This is a fascinating correlation between the measurement and the verse number, especially when considering that meters were not defined in that time. How could an unlettered man like Prophet Muhammad ﷺ have known about meters and such precise measurements 1,400 years ago?
The Quran mentions distances that surprisingly match modern measurements such as kilometers. In Quran 57:25, the verse about iron provides an interesting link to Earth's core. The verse number is 5100, which matches the distance in kilometers to the Earth's iron core. - Iron is located 5100 km beneath the Earth's surface. - The Quran verse about Iron is also verse 5100. This remarkable alignment suggests how the Quran describes something that could only be known with modern scientific knowledge, especially considering that kilometers weren't a known measurement 1400 years ago.
Similarly, the Quran also references miles in a subtle way. In Quran 9:28 and Quran 17:1, the verses that talk about the Sacred Mosque (Kaaba) and Al-Aqsa Mosque are separated by 767 verses, which correlates with the 767 miles between the two locations geographically. - The verse count between these two mosques is 767. - The distance between them, measured geographically, is 767 miles. This again raises the question: how could an unlettered man, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, have known this exact distance 1400 years ago?
The concept of light-years also appears in the Quran. In Quran 53:49, the brightest star, Sirius, is mentioned, which is 861 centi-light-years away from Earth. "And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius." (53:49) - Sirius is 8.61 light-years away from Earth. - The distance between the words "Star" and "Earth" in the Quran is 861 letters. This alignment suggests a knowledge of distance on a cosmic scale, something that wasn't understood until much later in human history. How could an unlettered man have known about centi-light-years? These examples illustrate how the Quran contains precise, scientifically accurate information about distances that were only confirmed by modern science long after it was revealed. The question remains: how could Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, an unlettered man from the 7th century, have known these details? This points to the miraculous nature of the Quran.
